CONTROLS / STARTUP ENGINEER

ENTEK Manufacturing, Inc., is seeking an industrial Controls/Startup Engineer with at least three years of experience programming PLC processors, preferably Allen Bradley. Candidate must have experience at programming HMI’s. Experience with vision systems and AC drives desirable but not required. Successful candidate must be a quality oriented, hands-on team player. Job Title: Controls/Startup Engineer
Location: Controls Dept.
Shift: Monday-Friday
FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY
Controls Engineer designs, develops, and starts up industrial control systems used for controlling equipment and machinery. Individual is responsible for the startup and de-bugging of equipment at the Lebanon, Oregon site as well as in the field at customer job sites. Some international travel will be required. Position requires that this individual carry the company pager from time to time for after-hours call-in support. The pager support is shared among several controls engineers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include all or some of the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

 Discuss project(s) with Supervisor and sales personnel to review functions of machines and equipment.

 Diagram logic systems for functions such as sequence and timing control.

 Design and program appropriate Human Machine Interface (HMI).

 Write PLC code and document the code according to ENTEK standards.

 Review schematics with customer representatives to answer questions during installation of systems.

 Write a complete project scope for each job before it is started.

 Design controls for industrial plant monitoring systems.

 Design and create control P&IDs, loop diagrams, and electrical prints as required to meet ENTEK and customer specifications.

 Design and perform test procedures for complex systems to verify mechanical, electrical, and control functions prior to delivery to customers.

 Review P&ID’s and interact with Engineering Department personnel and customers.

 Help lay out jobs for panel designers.

 Travel to customer sites to start-up complex systems. Travel may be required up to 50% of the time, may include weekends and holidays, and may be scheduled at short notice.

 Carry the company pager for after-hours call-in support. When assigned the pager, individual must be available to be at the ENTEK office within one hour. The pager is rotated between all controls employees. There is compensation pay policy for being paged (see policy).

 Accurately document hours worked on all projects.

 Possess the ability to use a multi meter to diagnose electrical and or wiring problems.

 Responsible for supervising contractors on-site at ENTEK's Lebanon, Oregon facility as well as off-site at customer facilities. Supervision responsibilities include budgetary, planning, and safety.

 Represent ENTEK with the highest standard of professional conduct when interacting with customers. Will be required to support the Sales group by providing schedules, quotes, and technical information for current and potential customers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or equivalent; or a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents; respond effectively to inquiries or complaints; write operating manuals; and make effective and persuasive presentations to customers when required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits and engineering equations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The employee must have project management skills. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Develop and hold schedules; pre-shipment functional test of equipment; oversee field installation of equipment; full functional check out of equipment; and commissioning of equipment at customer's site.

TRAVEL REQUIRMENTS
This position requires travel. ENTEK makes an effort avoid having employees away from home for more than two weeks at a time however, on occasion this may not be possible. Some international travel will be required.
