The RhinoHide® separators situated between the positive and negative plates in Johnson Controls® batteries are manufactured by ENTEK International in a custom, turnkey plant designed and built by its sister company, ENTEK Manufacturing. RhinoHide separators are highly-filled, porous sheets derived from high output, twin screw extrusion of a mixture of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene, an abrasive silica powder, and oil - a combination so challenging that ENTEK had to develop its own brand of customized extruders for this application.
